An FE story:

Here's a story....a few years ago some guy on a green crotch rocket (my son says a Kawasaki Ninja 1000 or some such thing) with his matching green biker clothes and green helmet, started following me around town. I was heading up to the highway to take a short cruise and then get back to town via the next exit. The motocycle guy was behind me as I started gently up the on-ramp. I could see him looking over his left shoulder checking for traffic, as he was itching to pass and leave me in the dust. So I let him pass. Just as he got by, I gave the car about 1/2 throttle in 2nd gear. And I caught up, and in fact, had to back off the gas a bit. Meanwhile this guy is going up through the gears winding it to red-line with every shift. So he finally relaxes and looks in his side mirror expecting to see me 1/2 mile back. Instead, I was right on his tail. He did this amazing double-take in the mirror. Too funny to see his helmeted head check the mirror, look forward, then snap back to check again......

Anyway, not too shabby considering the power to weight ratio advantage a motorbike typically has.

I understand from bikers that the feeling of speed is different with them as they are "out-in-the-open" as one guy put it.

I think I can understand what he was saying. You feel like you are going a lot faster than you really are.

The green guy probably thought he was hot snot until you set him back on Earth.

Good one!

:D :D

I don't race, that's why I didn't pass the guy. I live about 5 miles from a small town. Frequently Firebirds, Camaros, Corvettes, etc catch up to me when I'm on my way to town and they jsut follow me. It's always some kid in Dad's crapped out Pontiac...or a Dodge Neon....chuckle....who just "has to" pass me. I just let them go. Oops....I'm starting to sound like an FE snob........

Glad you liked the story though. I think the green cyclist had been hanging around with his friends. They park outside the liquor store across from the shopping center Friday and Saturday evenings. I wonder what he told them when he got back?

Buell

Last sportbike I had was a Buell 2001 X1 Lightning. 400LBS give or take a few with 118 RWHP after tuning. It is somewhat different but at my age I realized my reflexes wern't what they used to be after the OK Buffalo near incident. The Cobra is more fun, I still get the wind in my hair and my wife and I still get wet if it rains when we are in it. ;)
