428 FE Replacement Headers
I'm thinking about replacing the headers on my 428 FE (police interceptor) engine - the engine is any original - probably from a 67 car, so the current headers are in bad shape - looks wise. I was informed that perhaps stainless steel headers would cut down on the heat.
Anyway, is there a good source to look into RE: headers for this engine - are coated headers or stainless headers the route to go? Should I consider having the current headers coated?
Any input would be appreciated.

I have my Shelby Side pipes that will be available shortly. not going to use them, they are mild steel though and would need painting or coating. PM me if you are interested, not sure how they would FIT on an ERA.

The ERA design is not the same as an original Cobra. You must either have them custom fabbed for you, or buy them from ERA. Don't you have an earlier car number? If so you'll have to touch base with Bob P. on exactly what the configuration was for your specific car. To lower the heat, have them ceramic coated (being mindful of the slip-fit for the sidepipes).

You might want to consider having both interior and exterior coated, Headers rot from the inside-out. (exhaust gases mix with moisture and form acids)
Inner coatings will keep your exhaust temps higher in the pipe (better velocity) as well.
If you go with Stainless, you should still have the inside coated.

I had my old steel pipes reproduced by Stainless Headers MFG and they did awesome.I had some fittment problems with the old ones and they made sure the new ones fit perfect. They never even saw the car, just sent them the old ones with the changes I wanted and they did the rest. Great guys to work with
and beautiful work. I would use them again in a heartbeat. Go to stainlessheaders.com and check 'em out. If you email them please tell them that Russ sent you.
I'm just a happy customer, Russ
