427 fe bearings

Questions for all you fe engine builders out there,
what type of main bearings are you using these day's? full groove, half groove, make? and why.
what rod bearings?
timing set?
The build is going to be mainly street, cast iron block, cast crank, ford rods.
Thanks

Bearings

This would depend on the type of crankshaft that you are running. I like the Federal Mogul or Clevite. Most of the bearings are now 1/2 to 3/4 groove in the performance line and they are heat treated. We use these on the heat treated crankshafts. We use the regular bearings on the cast cranks. We use a Ford Racing double roller indexable timing set in most cases. With big spring pressures we use a billet timing set or a Danny Bee belt drive. Good luck, Keith

I use Federal-Mogul 125M 3/4 groove race main bearings and either F-M or Clevite race rod bearings - both are very good parts. I use them on all cranks. They're not actually "heat treated" although I can inderstand why the assumption is made based on the cosmetics. I have some advantage regarding the bearing structure being as I wrote the F-M performance parts catalog...

I prefer the Cloyes Tru-Roller 3 keyway timing sets. Might be the same parts since Cloyes does a lot of private label...
