High RPM's at Start
 
I have a Ford 5.0 EFI, three pulley system with only the sensors needed to have a motor run correctly, O2’s, ACT, Temp. I want to eliminate the high RPM / rev when the motor is first started then settles down to 900. Is there a way to adjust the EFI system so the car acts like an old muscle car / crab car?

A reflash of the ECU by a competent tuner will address this.

The IAC steps during and after cranking control the engine speed.

It's a balancing act between enough air for the engine to start and then run successfully after start.

Unless you don't mind it stalling "like a muscle car".

Thanks for the info. I had it dyno tuned and ask the guy to retune the EEC. However when I got it home and started it up the next day, the motor races to 2500 to 3000 rpm. I guess I will have to seek out another tuner. So it is possible to fix. Thanks for the reply

when cold the start rpm should jump high, when it gets warm you will notice it will not jump at all when starting, that high rpm start is what i love about your set-up, it sounds very race, (there is no choke so it will jump)

I'd agree. Who wants an engine to race to 3000 rpm cold, unnecessary, and completely fixable.

On a cold start, not having oil pressure at the time the engine turns over just does not sit right with me. I would rather turn down the rpm and play with the throttle. I know you can buy a pre-pressurized system that delivers oil before you start the car but I don’t know if I am going to keep this motor. Thank you for the reply. Always good to hear from people base on their knowledge and past experiences.
