Switched from quick fuel carb to Holley Avenger EFI...

....on my GT. Got tired of tinkering with the damn thing to get it right....now I'm no expert, so with better skills I'm sure someone could have made the carb right, but I've moved on. :D

So, now that I have it up and running, this Keith Craft 482FE is an even more amazing beast!!! Throttle response is simply perfect. More seat of the pants power and tires spinning where they didn't before...better be careful. :eek:

It took me a couple of days to get it installed and working...was pretty easy, just time consuming. I did have some issues as my O2 sensor is at the end of my pipes, so at and slightly above idle, fresh air would draw in enough to make the system think I was running lean, so it dumped fuel. Call to the Holley tech and the told me to take it out of closed loop until 1200 rpm's and just manually adjust the base idle fuel map which was pretty close to begin with. Then just drive it around and it learns along the way. Runs great!

Now I know this kills the original thing, but it looks like a carb and the wire harness blends fairly well. Overall, I'm happy to have the carb a thing of the past for this car, and it nicely controls my cooling fans independently with separate on/off temps.

Several months ago I updated my original 10 year old Holley Commander 950 MPFI (multipoint EFI) to the new Holley Dominator system. It took two days to extract all the old wiring!

Then another day to install all the new sensors, harnesses, ECU, injectors etc. I reused the 1000cfm throttle body.

What a difference! The new self-learning system is a night and day improvement over the old one. It made me aware of how much I was "driving around" the faults in the old system, such as dead spots, cough sputter and backfire spots...

It's a whole new car and much more enjoyable. Still need to improve the cold start, but the rest of it is great.

I'm enjoying a much more crisp throttle, smoother "tip in" and "roll on" and I'm pretty sure there are a few more ponies under the hood.

I've had my Keith Craft 482 installed and running since last Sept. It has a QuickTime as well and what we found initially was the cold start / fast idle circuit would not work properly. I thought it might be the Carb as I found a bent choke rod but I ended up taking it to a chassis dyno to set the whole thing up. Turns out it was a lack of vacuum from the intake. They said this is not unusual for a stroker with as radical a cam as I have in this engine. It had nothing to do with Keith or QuickTime. Once the engine warms up all is well.
This new Holley EFI does have me intrigued though...........
