Holly Terminator EFI
Morning All.
I have a small block 427 with a holly 750 duel feed double pumper feeding the gas. There seems to be a bit of hesitation lately and I have been considering going to EFI. I looked at the F.A.S.T. system as well as the Holly Terminator. I am starting to lean to the holly system (part # 550-405) and the Holly fuel delivery system (part #526-4). I was wondering if anyone has used this EFI system and if there were any issues after the install. Thanks, Joe |
I have the Holley Terminator and the Holley fuel kit. No real install issues - biggest was where to mount the fuel pump and filters. The pump is supposed to be below the tank.
The biggest problem is that the stock Holley tuning is not right for our big displacement engines. I used their prompts and the fuel and timing table were woefully inadequate. It was very lean and not enough timing. I ended up taking it to a local EFI tuner to get it tuned. Now that it is tuned correctly, it is much better. Don't buy into the hype of these "self-tune" units. You will need a lot of time with it and a laptop to get it right. Overall, I like it better much than the carb. Oh, and the Holley forums are almost useless if you don't know what you are doing. You will ask a question "How do I make this do that." You will get a response that has thirty different possible actions, one of which may be your answer. Since you don't know what you are looking for, you are no better off than you were before. No step by step how-to instructions on how to solve your issue. |
Joe,
Call Bob Reems at Imagine Injection. He is local to you and the best there is. I know he currently really likes the newest Fast system and gave my a total price around $4K 100% installed with a touch pad in the cockpit to adjust on the fly. |
Like the Terminator
I spent weeks planning for fuel delivery and after exhaustive research decided on the Terminator from Holley. I am running a Ford Racing 427w with X heads, dynoed at 464 h.p. out of the box. Had no trouble starting and getting going. Did have professional on hand but nothing really needed to adjust. Just at first start but would not hesitate to recommend.
Support is great with an active forum at Terminator TBI . Good luck, Henry |
I'll second on don't believe the self tuning hype. You'll either have to jump in feet first and learn some stuff or pay someone to iron out the kinks. I have a Megasquirt 2 ($280 solder it yourself ECU) and hardware from multiple sources, and I love it. But I've been dreaming about and learning about DIY EFI for 10 years. And it is a complicated thing to understand and master.

I am headed over to Imagine Injection this morning to talk to Bob about doing the set up. Thanks for all the advise.

My brother just installed a FAST set-up on a 66 Corvette with a 427. He was amazed at how easy it was after you get a bit of the wiring figured out. They used an in-tank pump versus the external as it was easier to plumb and cleaner looking.
It has a screen included with it to adjust all your settings. It looks like a nice unit. I prefer the Holley EFI systems myself. |
Well just made the appointment with Bob Reems of Imagine Injection, he will be getting the car on May 4th and have it for a week. I decided to go with the FAST second generation set up which will control everything, air, fuel, timing advance, and electric fan control. Also comes with a dash mounted display panel to control all functions at the touch of a button. Excited now, cant wait to have it done.

Dave....The car seems to have gotten over its learning disability. Is running way better then ever. Just a couple of small issues that are going to be readjusted next Monday. Still running a slight bit rich and when you come to a light take it out of gear and stop the car the idle drops down to about 650 then recovers to the 950 rpm that it is set at. Cold start, not really a problem, and warm start no issue at all. Instant throttle response, no lag at all. Step on it and hold on. All in all, even though there were some issues in getting it set up correctly, a worth while investment as far a performance is cocerned.

Now I recall why I like my $700 carburetor.

any updates on how the self learning systems are performing...
|
fordracing65, I wound up going with the fast competition set up because the basic starter kit coould not read and understand the cam (at least that is what Bob Reems had said about it). The car has been back to him twice so far and he has it totally dialed in. Throttle responce is instant, performance is increased as well. I am very happy with the outcome of the job and would recommend Bob Reems from Imagine Injection to do any fuel injection work. Thanks for asking.

The FAST 2.0 sportsman Is what I meant to say. I have to learn to stop trying to type before my first cup of coffee.

Yeah some of the new efi ez tunes systems don't like over .250 duration @.050 for the cam. As they read and tune from a vacuum source. I was thinking about going with fast EZ 2.0 or Holley terminator. But just had my engine (67 428 pi) dyno tuned with a 830cfm quick fuel. Great info guys thank you
