Fitech just stopped running
 
Here’s a heads up if anyone else with a fitech system with force fuel suddenly loses fuel pressure . Car has run fine for two years then just stopped running . Everything looked to be in place , mechanical pump seemed to be pumping and electric pump was running.Went almost nuts trying to figure out why the system had no fuel pressure. Pulled the pump out of the force fuel and bingo ! There’s a small section of rubber hose that goes from the electric pump to the aluminum housing , had a hole blown in it . Put a new piece of hose in , put it together and it fired right up . Lots of head scathing, simple fix in the end .

You fixed the symptom. What caused the hole, would be my next question.

I know you generally cannot just go to the auto parts store and buy hose for an application where the hose is continuously immersed in gasoline. Did it have the correct hose originally and did you put the correct hose on?

The hose fitech used obviously didn’t like being immersed in fuel . I replaced it with nylon fuel line .I owned a shop for twenty years and this is far from the first time I’ve seen rubber fuel hose used on many vehicles from the factory and have not seen a hose soft and blown out like this one was . I guess just a crappy quality of hose . Everything else about the force fuel unit is nice equipment.

It had what fitech built it with . Took about 15 minutes to fix , anyone with one might want to upgrade it to avoid a breakdown .I bought this in 2020. It’s possible fitech made a change to a compatible hose sometime after that . I don’t know that , fitech would .

Alcohol in modern fuel is hard on rubber.

And being such a short piece, the nylon string that reinforces is just pulled through.

All modern oem fuel canisters use a hard plastic hose for that connection.

Just to be clear I’m in no way disappointed with fitech , my car has a pretty far out there 428 and the fitech unit copes with it without any drivability issues . My car was miserable with the carburetor on it . It’s a vastly more enjoyable experience with fuel injection on it .I wouldn’t say it tamed it . Who wants that ? But it does start now every time , except when a small piece of hose fails lol .
