We picked-up this Cobra, with a 514 SVO built by (Cope Brothers, Tacoma WA) haven't called them yet. As this motor was built in 2004, They may not remember it. Can anyone ID this FI?? We just need a spacer (Gasket) for the body, and a throttle stop for the secondary's. And help ?? Cheers Tom.

That throttle body looks like one of Chris Richards Mass Flo EFI the company name has changed,it used a mass air sensor from gm that would sit on top of the t body.

Tom,

Kinda looks like maybe an early version of this one?

Just a guess...

I agree with you, Tom (W). I think it is a preproduction or early production version that was cut from a block of billet aluminum.

The giveaways are the near-identical, machined from billet, exterior shapes rather than the as-cast main body surfaces on the Holley piece.. Additionally, the throttle linkage is again a machined from billet item that was replaced with traditional Holley stamped steel components, as illustrated in the image on the Holley webpage.

The backside of the throttle body (facing the firewall) also appears to have the same fitting the production Holley piece uses.

My bet is that you have a prototype or early production piece that was made before the cast production pieces were available. I tend to like it better than the production piece!

BTW what ECU is used with this hardware for engine fueling?

Thanks Gentlemen as always, without this site, I'd be dead in the water, till I'd done Hours & Hours of searching in old Holley catalog's ;) It is a Holley Pro-Jection Commander 950 EFI. Ed, thank you for your info. and we will stay in touch, always a pleasure speaking with you :). Tom, you know this Cobra very well, if I can PM you about it, you may be able to fill in some gaps. Without getting into too much detail, this car was well known here, from 2002-2008. Cheers Tom.

Hold on & back up, we may be wrong!!, a Holley Pro-Jection 950 Commander EFI, look's nothing like we have on the car??? Looks like the link Tom sent, Hummm.... https://documents.holley.com/techlibrary_r10179-1.pdf

Alfa02 04-06-2023 11:54 AM

@ wench87, is this the FI unit, you were talking about ?? I left a message with them, to see if that is their FI system. . Thank you again. Cheers Tom. https://www.promracing.com/ford-429-...fi-system.html

Tom,

Best bet here is go under the dash and look for the ECU. It will be about 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches and have its name emblazoned on the outside.

The Pro-M EFI. is a very good and very mature system based on Ford race ECU tech. The system you are struggling with is definitely not one of those.

10-4 Ed, I will do that today. Thanks, my friend Tom.

Tom. Awesome, Looks like you landed the WCC that was owned by a former CC member Back in Black ? , the bright red chassis and dark red paint gave it away if this is the same car built in 03-04 ish. Good luck getting the FI sorted out. Keep us updated.

kitcarbp 04-07-2023 07:33 AM

Hey Tom, there is a pic posted here on CC showing that motor with what is claimed to be a holley fi system. Check the photo gallery for Back in Black
You will see it in there. Mystery solved?

In his photo description it states 1000 cfm holley throttle body using 36 lb/hr injectors and a Commander ECU. That should give you enough to have a conversation with holley for info.

The holley site has a tuning manual for commander 950 circa 2004 that may help you

Thanks, kitcarbp Yep, the cats out of the bag  It is "Back in Black" Steve's West Coast. The Cobra came to us (Brent EM-0785 & I) though a round-about way (SAAC) members and a couple FBI agents  We now have a couple FBI guys as friends (That never hurts :3DSMILE:) Steve passed away a couple years ago, and his wife was ready to move on. Steve, we have found out was quite the character , the one FBI agent is his neighbor, Steve's wife asked him if he would sell the guns Steve had, he said sure, WELL long story short they found 96 guns in the house Hummmm... Brent & I plan on bringing the West Coast back to its former glory, really not too hard, as it was left in a heated garage, then put it up on BaT, for the next owner, It's been a fun project for the both of us :3DSMILE: Here's a quick picture or two of our progess, the last stage is getting the FI right and I think we're on the right track, Again thank you everyone for all the help, and when its up on BaT Please talk it up  Cheers Tom. We will start a new post, on our journey with the Cobra.
