problems with my efi
 

ever have one of those moments?

i've had efi problems for about 2-3 weeks now. it's an accel dfi gen 7 setup and runs in sequential mode with crank trigger and cam sync distributor. the problem is a code is set that indicates it has lost the crank signal. when this happens the efi goes from sequential to batch injection, and the tune runs rich, so you can't tune for one and have it work for the other.

i discussed it with the guy i purchased it from and we decided it must be interference, so i rewired all the efi stuff seperately from the power wires and msd and anything high voltage and interference looking, moving all the hardware to the other side of the car.

last week i thought i had it whooped, but the code came back again, so i was going to change to a dual sync distributor since i couldn't find the problem and try it that way.

tonight i was out there tracing all the wires to make sure of everything and still couldn't find anything wrong, so i pull out the voltmeter and start checking stuff and narrow it down to the crank trigger wire.

after going back and forth with an ohm meter and continuity checker i discover one pin in an 8 pin connector was not crimped properly. i could push the probes onto the pins and it would read and so i kept going back and forth and thought it was the wire between the connector but it would check ok. on the last go-around i narrowed it down to the pin which was intermittent and didn't have a good crimp on the wire, the wire slipped right out and was only held in with the rubber o-ring.

about 30 minutes prior to this i was about ready to give somebody big bucks just to find this.

anyway, that was my moment, and it lasted 2 weeks.:CRY:

Don't feel alone. Last year I had an EFI problem. I tore the entire wiring harness apart, swapped out a few ignition components, ets. Spent weeks tracking it down. It turned out to be a faulty connector at the distributer. All it needed was a $2 part from Radio Shack. Sigh. Live and learn.

Most electronic stuff works, and works well. --when SH*@*(@# breaks it is usually something simple like a loose ground, clipped wire, or a van-de-graf-generator placed on your skull.

thought i found the problem. :CRY: looks like i might be going batch fire on the injectors afterall.

switched the cranktrigger/cam sync to a dual sync dist. and car runs better then ever. must have been something weak about the other triggers, wire too long or not shielded correctly or magnets weak, although tried two different distributors.

this is gettin to be a roller coaster ride.
