roll bar openings, how'd you figure them?

I decided to go ahead and raise my roll bar. I bought some dom tubing, cut off the old mounts and welded on longer mounts. I just got thinking about mounting the body and am concerned that the body might not drop down far enough to accurately determine where to drill openings. How'd you do it?

Mine did not have a roll bar when I started. I installed one purchased from acton cobra. to try and better mimic the original bar shape/size.

Web site acton cobra. Roll Bars : Acton Custom Enterprises, Custom Metal for Cobras (their measurements are on the add)

The two loop posts I mounted in the factory location- but the third support leg was problematic. To get "the look close to right" I wound up having to custom place the third support leg mount and did have to weld a very strong bracket to the car.. But I was able to attach this bracket and loop with the body on the car.

A couple things I would have done different after years of having mine. 1) I would have made it a bit higher it currently is 4" above the top of my head. I am height challenged at 5'7" so no tall drivers. Since the acton is cut to height I had lots of options. 2. I also would have added (bent) the loop to give it the original rake. Mine is pure vertical like most others. 3. Put grommets on before welding bar in place

I placed the loop holes by using the steering wheel hub as a midline on the loop . Sat in the car and verified loop was centered on my head/torso. The back space from the cockpit was determined but I ended up using the streetbeast frame bar directly under the cubby fiberglass and centered the loop bar on it. The loop backspace was great. The third leg is a personal choice...The down angle and side view /I and the top view angle \I I had to work with a bit. It wound up my mounting point for the third leg was to the rear of the top of the drivers side shock tower. Hence a custom made bracket.

Rollbar 3rd Leg Problem - Club Cobra Photo Gallery Here is where we cut the third leg bracket & rewelded it. The main mounts were off too: cut, modify & reweld. They didn't make anything easy.

Thanks for the ideas guys, and the pics as well. It all helps. As I told a friend who didn't think I could raise the bar, if it was easy it wouldn't be any fun.

I just upgraded my OEM single roll bar to twin DOM's. I tried to use the original template that CMC provide with their instructions but they really were of no help in locating the rear support bars. We ended up doing it the hard way (trial and error) and used a hand held laser projector.

Ultimately we were happy with our installation.
