Spider cracks in the gelcoat.

Has anyone had spider cracking appear in their cars? I have found two places with cracks: on the trunk lid and on the body just forward of the windshield right side edge. I've read that grooving out and filling the cracks is the repair but what is used to color match the gelcoat? Mine being black gelcoat.

My body hasn't been installed yet but I have spider web cracks on trunk lid (over where hinges mount) and a few other places. I have a lot of air pockets and some scratches so I figure most of the body will have to be sanded down thru gelcoat to fix it right.I don't do body work so soon it'll have to go to a body shop to make it right.

Our car has them on the trunk lid, hardly noticeable on the white body so I'm calling them 24 yr. old patina.

Well, it seems that I'm not all alone concerning the surface cracking. Looking at some Corvette websites talks about repairing their cracking issues. I figure that if I can build the car than I should be able to repair it too. Who knows, I might even get good at it. It's the color matching part that I need to go to school to learn. I'm already enrolled in youtube U. Harry

You are not alone Harry we have owned a few Corvettes they too developed those cracks over time. Talk to boat repair people also they are full of repair knowledge.

My CMC has a few cracks in it. I do drive it hard though (Autocross, track.) I agree with mdross1. Talk to a boat guy. A friend of mine owns a boat service place and advised me on what to do.

After reading this took a peek at mine again the trunk lid is the worst. Honestly, I accept the patina my car is near 25 yrs. old it goes with the territory fiberglass being what it is.
