Forza 3 claim the Ford GT40 was American - they were built in England at the Ford pla
Don't forget the Canadian built Lancasters......
And the US built Rolls Royces.... And the Argentinian built Wolseleys (Austin Cambridge shape) The Austin 7 which became a BMW Dixi.... And the Rover V8...... bought from General Motors by William Martin-Hirst, origianlly the Buick 215, destined for a speedboat in 1958 and shelved, which is rumoured to have beed a pre-war BMW design! |
Perhaps it started off as a British/American effort, but tell me where was the GT40 MKIV designed and built?

Read Ford GT40 and the New Ford GT
Got a brand new copy for $60.hardbound 224 pg. 32 pages/w colour, 100 b & w illus.
In a nutshell, the Mk.IV was designed in Dearborn. Assembled in U.S. baked in an oven at Brunswick (minus the body) Holman & Moody and Kar Kraft put them together. So they were as American as apple pie. Even had Corvair taillamps. Some British firms finished unfinished tubs or open race cars with Mk. IV tubs as complete Mk.IVs but those are still not British built cars, just British assembled cars. That is always a problem assigning which country to attribute a car; for instance some Porsche Boxsters were assembled in Finland. Does that mean they are Finnish cars? |
Don't forget the Daytona Coupe. It was designed and built in L.A. but some bodies and parts were sent to Italy to be done. Still the only american designed and built car to win a world championship and there were only 6 of them..
