Unfortunately, Pat "jumped on the truth." It always makes people uncomfortable when someone does that....

RodKnock 10-25-2010 01:26 PM

cdnus, "jumped on the truth", but I don't think Allen was trying to say his car's market value is $108K, especially when it's listed on eBay for $99K.

I remember Dean Lampe asking $95,000 or $99,000 for his RCR when it was listed on CobraCountry, but he sold his RCR 40 for an early (P2122?) red SPF GT40 trade plus cash, so no one knows what the final sales price was there.

Anyway, the facts are that Allen's RCR is beautiful and his RCR is a very high-end RCR build.

Sorry, doesn't wash.
Poor choice of words on Pat's part. That car is well worth the asking price, it is a piece of car art. It is not a resto-pinto.

Again JMO.

"Worth", "market value", po-TATO, po-TAHTO. But, we're all entitled to our opinions. Pat and Allen are good "peeps."

As you can see, I put a laughing emoticon with my reference to a Pinto with a 527ci Cammer. I was only kidding with the analogy.

ENTDOC 10-25-2010 04:41 PM

Pat is exactly correct actually. The build price of a car like a GT40 has little to do with the value on the open market. This is not to imply that it is not a wonderful car, and perhaps someone will buy it at the asking price, but it is a buyers market now. The build cost on my SPF P2103 MK11 was 123K. I paid 90 for it and sold it for 85 a year ago.

patrickt 10-25-2010 04:56 PM

See, Rod? Smart people are in agreement that Pat was right.

If that were true it would invalidate the price of every production car sold.

Bullcrap?

LOL.

You are getting your apples mixed up with your oranges......this is not a production car.

If it was a production car I would not have made that statement.

Craig,

You can take it to the bank if Pat says so.

I am sure you guys know I expected to take a loss and I don't feel I am being unrealistic on my price. Not only are we asking 12k less for a new car built and finished by the manufacturer (RCR) this year, but I am also taking an additional hit paying for it to be sold for me.

Thanks for the plug, I can assure you the new owner who ever it will be will not be disappointed. :)

Three Peaks 10-26-2010 09:24 PM

Allen,
Sorry to see you're selling your baby. I didn't even get an opportunity to have a ride in it yet...

Maybe see you and Liz at a meeting soon?

Bob

Beautiful car and worth every penny of the asking price and more IMO. Good luck with the sale and whatever you decide to get in the future.

Hi Allen, I am in the market for a GT40. My problem is fitting into one. I am 6'1'" and cannot get into a Superformance unless the floor pan is tubbed and the rails are removed from the seat. I can fit in a Cav without a problem. Can you give me any feedback about the seat set up on your car? Thanks

You can PM me or e-mail me at nightenforcer@cox.net

Thanks

The RCR has plenty of room for you, I am 6' and had this car set up to fit me. Actually it's a little bit of a stretch with the pedals all of the way back like they are on my car. Probably a perfect fit for you just being a little taller. I have plenty of head room in my RCR as well. The steering wheel has the quick release, but I never needed to remove it to get in or out. I also had the seats re-worked to give me a little more room. We took the bolsters in on the sides which gave a wider seat area.

Your welcome to call me or email if you want to find out more about the car.

Hi Bob - Sorry about the ride.

I really haven't had a chance to enjoy the car )-:

RCR from what I understand builds prototypes for Detroit

When you build prototypes that are worth $1 million up,
making a kit car is duck soup. So I reckon they are pretty good quality.
I know the price is high but if you are going to go 200 mph you don't want something that's going to fall apart on you.

Dwight 02-21-2012 06:21 PM

I did it

My original post was in Aug of 2010. I had been watching the GT 40 market for years but never thought I would be able to build one. But in Dec of 2010 I bought a RCR GT 40 that was suppose to be road worth, completed, titled and ready to drive car. When I received it, it would not run. Rims rubbing suspension arms, wiring problems, etc., etc. When I found a problem and fixed it, I would find two more, then eight more. The more I looked the more problems I found. After working on it for 5 months I had to stop and work on other cars. I started working on it again this week and hope to have in on the road in the next couple of months. It needs a paint job but I don't know if I will paint it now or wait till fall.
The RCR is a great kit. And this car has a lot of good parts. I look forward to some long road trips in this car. I retired in Jan so now I have the time to work on it. I'm going to add a Gurney bubble, tow bar and maybe build a 347 to go in it.
After a year of thinking about the paint color and asking everyone, I have chosen Black. Maybe white stripes. I ordered the meatballs and decals to make it look like a race car.
Yep it's going to be fun.

Dwight

Welcome to the GT40 club Dwight! Have you taken any pictures yet?

ALLEN ENGLISH 02-21-2012 08:17 PM

I spent a lot to have a car far more than I could normally afford. Maybe it is my expectations are too high, but for what I paid I didn't get what I expected. As you said there was always something not done right and even though I originally discussed a turnkey build at the end I was told that they didn't do those. I have email's that say different though. At any rate I think the RCR has potential to be a great product if built by the right person. In my case I know one person working for RCR started my build and half way through another person finished it and you could see the difference in the peoples work in several places. Again the car is a great product from RCR, I just recommend you build it and all should be well.

On another note I loved my RCR40, but it wasn't the kind of car I could really enjoy on the streets because you couldn't see out of it very well. These cars are meant to be raced and in my opinion are best suited for the track.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!
