Jim PS: I'm sorry that the pictures are "thumbnail". I can't seem to load a larger size. Please see the pictures in my galary. |

Really cool project, Jim. Looking forward to seeing more of the project as you finish.

Nice!
Boy that T44 transaxle does look stout. |

We've got T44 magnesium castings (unmachined) piled up like cordwood... but the economy and the cost of machining has put that project on hold. After all, just how many customers are there who would be willing to pay $30k for a gear box? Jim PS: ..and yes, a proper dry sump 427 and T44 does represent a certain "value." The .028 aircraft stainless exhaust alone represents a modest investment. |
Thanks Jim for sharing those great photos!! When was the last time any of us saw a T44/ the front drive set up/ and the headers up close? I remember that "cordwood" setting in about the same spot the last time I was up there! I saw J10 at the skunk works too. That was a great day to visit and see all this great stuff. Please keep the pics coming! Maybe Peter P will have one of those famous "Kirkham scratch and dent sales" and sell some of those T44's for garage art!:3DSMILE::3DSMILE: I always heard the J cars turbine wheels made good lamp bases! Great stuff! Many Thanks! Matt

As requested, here are the magnesium lamp bases...
Jim |
i saw that
during a skunkworks tour...and i really couldn't picture the final product...now i get it:LOL:
|
Who made the lamp bases? M&A? (I only ask because I was just on their site and listed the Turbine wheels as one of their projects.)
|
The lamp bases are original 45 year old magnesium wheels... not something that you want to do 220 on the banking at Daytona on. I spoke with the good folks at M&A when we were out at Road America a year ago.
