GT40 at SVRA at the Glen this past weekend

I went to Watkins Glen this past weekend for SAAC-37 and the SVRA vintage races. This gold GT40 was at the Olthoff Racing tent. It ran Le Mans in ’66 and ’67. It DNF’d in ’66 and came in 2nd in ’67. It spent the next 40 years in a warehouse in Japan and then sold to another gentlemen in Japan for $6.1 mil. It was brought over here to be restored, then to the Glen for Olthoff Racing to run it on the track to get the bugs out. Had some problems and didn’t run much on the track. It’ll be running a vintage race at Le Mans in two weeks and then probably back to Japan to the owner's collection. Here are some pictures:

Thanks for the pics. Chassis # ? Interior especially dash has MK IV look to it. Interesting that SVRA allows gas tank vent tubing inside the cockpit.

Expensive Tent Stake! LOL
When the winds were coming up, they used it for a Tent Stake

Ignore.

JB, I noticed that. I was thinking, what next, serving food on it!

Swift, I didn't talk to the restorer myself, except that he said it would be going to Le Mans in a couple weeks to run in a vintage race. I asked a buddy of mine I went there with and he said it was 1047. I Googled it. A lot of information there to digest... 1031/1047... 1047B. At this point, I can't say. I was mostly hanging out at the Olthoff racing tent, my buddy was selling his '70 Boss 302 racer there. The story I posted with the pictures is what I heard from others also there at the tent. There's a couple threads on gt40s.com and an article on racingicons.com

According to the SAAC registry (2008 ed.) P/1047 competed at Le Mans 1966, Daytona 1967 and Le Mans 1967, but did not finish any of these races.

It was entered as a Shelby team car in the '66 Le Mans driven by Dan Gurney and Jerry Grant, but DNFed in the 17th hour. It was driven for the Shelby team by Gurney and Foyt in the '67 Daytona but again DNFed. And finally it was entered as a Holman-Moody car in the '67 Le Mans driven by Frank Gardner and Roger McCluskey, but crashed during the night.

Unless I'm reading this thing wrong...

....like a 6 mil buffet table! LOL
no harm though, and actually a good idea. The winds were kicking up and a tent and poles coming loose and beating on the car would be Bad:eek::CRY:

Yeah JB, I saw a lot of people using their cars as tie downs.

SunDude, it's hard to say what is what with regards to this GT40. I tend to side with the SAAC registry info you posted. I didn't thoroughly read the racingicons.com article (1031/1047). I think I have to take notes when I do read it carefully to keep things straight! Rick Muck (Time Machines) posted a thread with pictures on gt40s.com:
P1047 - GT40s.com
Rick posted a picture of the ID plate, it says 1047. Regarding your quote with your signature... I like this one: Don't drive faster than your Guardian Angel can fly.

There were two J cars at the Olthoff tent off and on, both blue. I'm not sure, I believe Fran Kress's was #28 and the other was #54. Maybe the other way around? I don't know who the owner of the #54 was. There was also a yellow J car coming from around the Cobra Automotive tent.
