1965 Ford GT40

Almost every Cobra aficionado knows the significance of the Ford GT40. However, not nearly everyone knows that 31 street legal GT40s were created. Here's one that has been modified to be a track-worthy competitor: Redline Review Article Detail.

A local hero by the name of Bill Wonder had a silver "street" GT40 that he drove to a couple of the Cobra club meets in the New York area in the mid-1970s. He also ran a Can Am car that was always clean enough to win a concours, but fared less well on the track.

The article mentions that the car was at the AGP in Adelaide in 1985. I saw it there. It was at the Classic Adelaide in 1999, and I saw it there too, with Big Rev Kev at the wheel. At the time, and with the scarcity of original GT40s in Australia, I assumed that it was probably a good replica (it was painted in Gulf colours, as are a lot of replicas), but I now know that it was GT40P/1034.
My apologies to 1034 for thinking it was a replica!
Cheers,
Glen

Hey Glen,

That's very cool. You saw it twice!

I'm sure your apologies to GT40P/1034 are accepted, especially since you remembered her well. :)

Best,

Brian
