On the J-car sold at the RM in Scottsdale
 
Not built in original era
Not built by Kar Kraft (though the description said it was, that was a new firm called Kar Kraft)
Not built with Ford or Shelby assigned J car number

On the other hand it had a nice paint job

The catalog called it a "continuation car." I call it a replica.
Why would anyone pay over $600K for a replica?

In the article from the link in twobjshelbys post it calls it a re-creation and states that is is made to the exact specs of the originals. I really don't see anything in that article that tries to pass it off as anything but a very exact replica or recreation of one of the originals.

Although there was not much information on these in the latest SAAC registry, surely you must remember the articles published on them in the Shelby American magazine, right?

When you go back and read over the details, I am sure that you will get a better understanding, and then you should summarize your thoughts here on this thread.

If you delve into the construction of these Kenny Thompson built Mk IV's these are no ordinary replicas. Thompson worked on the original GT40's and it shows in the aluminum tub fabrication. Just the T44 trans alone costs $45K+. I own a Superformance MkII , but would not consider it in the same league as these.

I've looked the car in the Web page at 1967 Ford GT40 Mk IV Continuation by Kar Kraft | Arizona 2015 | RM AUCTIONS and it's a Mk IV, not a J-Car. It is my understanding the J-Cars have the 'bread van' style rear end that was abandoned after Ken Miles was killed driving one at Riverside in August 1966, though I have seen a number of Web sites where Mk IV cars have been referred to as j-cars, perhaps because of chassis numbering (e.g. J-6, J-9, J-10). If this is not the car you're referring to, please provide a link.
