I'll tell you why, Avons and the like destroy paint jobs, low grip tyres(tires) don't flick up stones and grit grinding the paint away on your sills.
My Avons have been on my car for 300km and the sills need painting already and stone chip marks up the side of my car are increasing daily.

Any good sticky tyre will do that and you want good sticky tyres on these cars, IMHO. Yes, I know it sounds like popcorn under the fenders and throws stuff all over the place. But just consider it as adding to the "patina" of the car.;)
