1012 GT 40 Scandal
Hello, big scandal in Europe http://forums.motorlegend.com/cgi-l.../ultimatebb.cgi
The story is that 12c years ago, a replicar ( built by Brian Winfield in 1980 ) gt40 using chassis 1012 was sold to Grave in Swiss country for low money, after the car was race by Grave + the new owner Lecou in differents tour auto + Le Mans Classic. 2 year ago, a monegasque bought from Symbolic the real 1012 and want to use it in Europe but was refuse because the replicar was already enter to the events. Insiders say that Patrick Peter and Lecou ( also owner of the ex Willy Mairesse gt 40 1079 who was destroyed at le mans 1968 and replicar built by the famous Sbarro ) are partners on the replicar and it s the reason why he try to promote the fake. Who have more infos about this ? |
Perhaps a better website for this message would be <<www.gt40s.com>> , which is more focused on GT40s than ClubCobra. That site has many members in Europe as well as the U.S. who may have firsthand knowledge of what is going on with the two (or perhaps three?) "1012" GT40s. Just register as a member and post your message. It should draw some comments.

The story was told to be many years ago. some of the details may be off, but this is what I remember from the story.
As I understand the story of this paticular car it was a car that was crashed in testing at Daytona. A person bought the wreck as well as a new tub, all the supension and spares that were for this paticular car. A new tub was used as the original tub was in to bad a condition to be reused. The original tub turned into basically a planter at his house. After several years his wife asked him to get rid of it and he gave it to a friend. It passed through several people and ended up in England. A new 1012 was build from a very small section of the original tub with reproduction parts. The original owner sold his 1012 quite a few years ago. Not long after the second one appeared. I guess it is up to those involved as to which one is original. The one rebuild with original parts or the one built off a small section of tub. |
The link is dead... That makes it a true clone right???

Going to be an interesting arguement. I can see a similiar arguement here when the real A'llard' cars are called up. Aaah some cloning going on here..
