fuel bowl vent whistle question
anybody notice how the fit of the whistle to the metering block is crappy? gaps around the edges, maybe allowing fuel into the vent tube? anybody ever experiment with sealing the whistle to the metering block? any noticeable difference? inquiring minds? nothing to do?

Now, I know who makes Roush's primary throttle stop.
When you step into this arena, as in the NASCAR providers, not much hoopla, just the stuff that works. I go into the shop at Mooresville and the guys let me walk aound the back of the shop. Great group of folks, I get ideas and buy more stuff. Their "Cup engines" are amazing. |
The Cup guys are the Guru's of the pushrod engine.

i was going to be slick and plug the sloppy vent whistles on the carb where they meet the block so i thought i would use jb weld, like you quoted above.
everything clean and everything, or so i thought, the stuff looked like it released from the metal and i had no problem taking the whistles out and cleaning the metal surfaces or plastic whistles. maybe the surfaces weren't rough enough. i could probably cut the jb weld with a knife. i use a fuel additive so maybe that did something. i used some on fittings inside the block also:CRY: |

I just went out and "tested" the brass fitting I JB welded to the filler pipe. That sucker is immovable! Of course, I haven't run any gasoline through it yet :eek: Tom |
too bad you don't have a test piece to put in a jar of gas and sit on the shelf.

JB Weld was reliably "gasoline proof" up until the addition of ethanol became common. Regarding it's ability to degrade various epoxies, synthetic rubbers, and even some alkylid-based polymers, ethanol is just as nasty as methanol.
We use Miller-Stephenson's MS-904 (based on Shell Petroleum's "Epon" resin) for sealing applications that require that sort of strength, cured hardness, and chemical resistance. |
