FAST or Innovate Fuel Air Meters
Guys, I am looking to buy a fuel air meter to dial in/ check my new Survival Motorsport Carbs. Looking at the Innovate MTX-L single probe ($200) and the FAST Dual Probe 170402 ($360) to use on a 427 FE with older Holman and Moody 2x4 intake and ERA Stainless Specialties side pipes (they leak out a little at the slip joints, but seem to blow out as viewed by the residue).
Questions: 1) Are there certain cylinders that run lean on a 427? 2) Best place to weld the bungs, collector or individual tube?? I guess I better have the pipes sealed at the slip joints, right? 3) Do I need a dual gauge or just check/set one side at a time? 4) Any other insights specific to this application or my choices in meters for testing purposes? I do not mind buying the dual probe gauge if it allows better results. |
My correction, it looks like $430 for the FAST Dual Probe pn 170402 dual plug. $360 for the single probe pn 170401. The new Innovate MTX-L single probe for $200 looks pretty good.
Any comments/insights on my other questions?? |
Learjockey1 .... get the two sensor unit . Our cars have two separate sidepipes and this will allow you to see what each side of the engine sees . If you are running a dual plane manifold , then this will be a big help . I`ve got the FAST dual sensor system and it works well , except for the rpm module , which is not very accurate . In FAST`s defense , they said to send it back for a warranty repair . They also have a neat software package you can download that will allow either a "dashboard " display or you can print out , or display a graph of your run . Holding the cursor on a point will read out the rpm and A/F ratios at that point .
Several things they don`t tell you ... the memory is a flash memory and as such , will be erased by recording a second run .... it won`t store multiple runs . If you didn`t download the first one , it`s gone . Also , they say you can record up to about 20 minutes .... don`t try it . You can , but then things get so compressed , you can`t read it on the graph . Limit the runs to 5 minutes or less . There is no time scale , so it is difficult to get an accurate idea of the duration of any particular event . My unit is still hooked up , so I will try to get some pictures , including where the sensors are located this evening . Otherwise , a good unit so far as I have found several things I wouldn`t have otherwise . Bob |
using a wideband commander with the gauge on the console, like the instant readout, no computers to fuss with, i can use a computer & store runs i think also, just prefer the gauge.

Ditto. I use the Innovate version with the AFR meter in the dash so I can monitor whenever I like.
