Dan ... there are several rules of thumb to set the PV by . The one I use is 1/2 the steady state vacuum reading at idle plus 1/2 ( warm engine ) . If your vacuum is 12 inches of Hg ... start with a 6.5 PV . A really long cam like ERA Charles has gives a low vacuum reading ( I have about 7 1/2 inches of Hg also ) and you need a low number PV .
However , just to completely confuse you ... on my Pro Systems carb , Patrick said to try a 9.5 PV to get rid of a bog at 3400 to 3800 rpm as I rolled into WOT from light cruise . Thought he was crazy until I tried it . Works like a charm and idle is perfect as is part throttle and plug readings . He says that the PV ckt. isn`t in operation at part throttle or idle on his carb .

Bob
