Float bowl mystery

Following picture sent to me this afternoon of a brass bracket found in the front float bowl of a 715cfm Holley/Ford carb. For the life of me I can't figure out why it was rattling around in there.

It is a baffle that covers the vent at the top. It fits on the top 2 center pins on the jet block. I think it was used only on marine carbs.

I usually find extra parts in a cardboard box **)

I have the same part in my Holley 770 (only it's black)

Holley has used these float bowl baffles for years....thirty that I am aware of for sure. They have recommended them any time the movement of the carburetor is likely to uncover fuel to the jets.
