The beauty of that UV dye is that it really tells you where you're leaking. There's no arguing with it, no guessing, no wondering if that's a wet spot or your imagination.

I had a warped primary fuel bowl that eventually resulted in pulling the threads out of the main body. My point is be careful with applying increasing amounts of torque to the screws to stop the leak or you'll pop the threads out. Find out why it's leaking and fix that. If everything is right it should seal up with just hand pressure on a screwdriver.

... and the older the Holley manual is, the higher the torque values for the bowl screws can be -- for the same model carb. I had one manual for my carb that said 40 to 50 inch/lbs. I think it cracked somewhere around the 50 mark. I can't be absolutely sure because I wasn't using a torque wrench for that particular "tweak."

I have seen people quote as high as 50 in/lbs. Holley tech told me 25-30. I'll double check that the screws are true and the mating surface on the bowl is clean too and then see how the paper gaskets work. Otherwise, I'll go to 35 in/lbs and see if it solves my problem.

I checked the bowl screws last night and they are straight and the head is square to the screw and the mating surfaces are clean and unmarred. However, I did notice that across the screw heads there seemed to be a VERY slight variance in thickness and confirmed this with a caliper. Not sure if it's enough to cause the leak, but since the nylon gaskets don't have any give, it might be. I am going to replace the bowl screws and see if that solves it before switching to paper gaskets.

Put the crappy screws in on the top of the bowl -- they're above the fuel level anyway.

Good idea to test it. I don't mind replacing the screws anyway as the slots are dinged up. I found another set of OE slotted head screws for a reasonable price. If that's not it, the paper gaskets should have more give and solve the problem.

You can also double up on the paper gaskets and put just a light dab of Permatex 85420 Fuel Resistant Gasket Dressing between them. If all of that fails, then I would suspect something is warped.

Success. The paper gaskets arrived yesterday and I put them on overnight. No leaks and still only torqued to 30 in/lbs. :)

My wife will be happy to get the carb off the kitchen island. :p

No leaks overnight is officially "bone dry" for a Holley.;) The UV dye will actually wick through the blue gaskets and glow under the UV flashlight -- but that does not count as a leak. That takes a couple of days. And, of course, wicking on the cork idle mixture screw gaskets doesn't count, and leaks out the throttle shaft from after you've moved the throttle back and forth (and squirted on to the butterflies) doesn't count either.
