I've been thinking about getting some of these rock guards to help protect my expensice tri-bar headlights. This information has been good. Seems to me that having the screen right against the bulb will negate much of its protection. I guess its all in whether appearance or function is desired.

My kit came with two sets of "L" clips. I used the longer clip and it scewed into three mounting screws under the headlight ring. I replaced the trim ring. Then snapped the grid onto the clips (3 clips each side) and adjusted (bent) the clips to hold it snug and centered. Then I took a pair of needle nose pliers and just rolled back the part of the clip that extended past the installed grid and pinched it tight. No way to lose a grid and you won't loose skin if you brush against those exposed ends. The grids sit about 1/2" in front of the glass. Looks clean.

I did mine exactly as MaSnaka. I have to agree with Karl in that if the grill is too close to the bulb
you are defeating their purpose. Here's a pic of mine. John O http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...2/Cobra044.jpg |
The original type sit forward of the lense by about 1/4"-1/2". May look like it presses on glass but it does not.

Here is a close up of the headlights on one of the real Cobras at the Shelby American Collection:

Yes that is 2431, Ken Miles car!
Keep in mind it was restored and the bolts holding the screen on may or may not be from the 60's. The photo above is CSX3018 from the day. Another 3018 in the day: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ra_427_060.jpg I think the Frankenstien English threaded caps are correct for the period? |
What's the purpose of the stone guards over a plastic or fiberglass bulb replacer? %/
