Side vents on the Hurricane

Hi Hurricane and Owner builders, I have a few questions regarding the Hurricane and or Cobras' in general.
1. Why do so many builders move the side body vents forward about 4"?
are they in the wrong location from the factory?
2. What's the deal regarding the hood scoop location and opening? I see
many people modifing the stock hood scoops.
3. I'm also wondering if Hurricane can apply POR-15 in different colors at the
factory.

Hope you can give me your expert opinions and the reasons so I can get it correct when I build my Hurricane.

Thanks, Bill Bess

Bill, I'm not an owner but I can help you some.
1.Hurricane has changed the location of the side vent, on the newer bodies it is moved forward to be more like the originals.
2.Not sure on the hood scoop
3. I believe black is the only color foe POR-15, you could go to a power coat if you desire a different color.
Hurricane builds a great kit, alot of bang for the buck, IMHO the best kit in its price range and as good as some of the more expensive kits. Along with that Mike and Rich are top notch guys.

Bill, Razor is right. Hurricane has moved the side vents to a more correct position. They also have changed the hood scoop from being molded on to the more correct looking rivet on type. Some Hurricane owners have been changing where the hood seats to look more correct. The Hurricane has a larger seat area, where the hood locks attact, than original Cobras. I chose not to make this change as you'd only see it with the hood open and it makes a better or at least stronger attachment point.

Oh, as far as POR 15, it does come in silver. But don't know if the folks at Hurricane offer a color choice. I ordered my kit with the POR 15 coat option and it looks great. If you're interested, call Mike Arps at Hurricane and see if they can do silver POR 15.

Side Vents & POR15

Razor and Matt, Thanks for your input!

I agree that leaving the body reinforcements that support the hood seat is a good idea and an excellent design feature. It's nice to know that Hurricane is continually upgrading their Cobras body to make them as correct as possible.
I was looking at Alfredos Cobra being built in Mexico, he has that silver frame that looks really great, that is why I'm considering doing the frame a different color other than black. Maybe a darker silver gray frame with some red components and lots of chrome and polished aluminum would look good....I'm just thinking about it.
I've been planning my build for two years and am about ready to order. Again thanks for the info on the vents and the hood scoop

Hey Bill
You could order it unpainted and shoot it yourself in a another color if so desired. A couple other owners have done that and they turned out great.

Bill, I believe that Alfredo ordered his chasis bare and had it powder coated. I agree, the silver looks great! As soon as I saw it I emailed Mike Arps asking if it wasn't too late, could I get silver POR-15. Unfortunately, it was too late. My frame had already been painted.
But like Larry said, you can do it yourself or you might talk to Mike about him doing silver POR 15.

Something I remember hearing about the silver POR-15 is that it turns sort of greenish color after a while. I remember reading this on the FFR forum a few years back. Maybe they have changed the formula since then but worth looking into.
