MSD Digital 6 Finally Craps the bed....
Well, after 10 years my MSD Digital 6 crapped out. I came back from a ride with no problems but a few days later I'd get a strong crank but no fire.
I went through the MSD book and did all the testing with the exception of testing the red wire coming out of the ignition box (it was all taped up and I was avoiding ripping it open.) Rick at MSD tech was really helpful in walking me through the troubleshooting process. If you ever have a problem call him. I finally ran out of alternatives so I opened up the harness and, using a thumb tack, accessed the red hot wire. I put a multi-meter on it and turned on the power (I have a battery cut off so there is no drain.) OK, I have 13 volts...crank.....10 volts; enough to fire it up. This tells me that the ignition box is getting enough power to start the motor. However, no spark. Box is dead.... Being that it is 10 years old, Rick tells me that it is a potted box so they cannot repair it. Have to get a new one. YAAAAAAA...gotta find something to sell on Ebay. Anybody wanna buy a Mexican 50 Peso Gold Coin that is 37.5gr of pure gold mounted on a 18k bezel with necklace mount? Roscoe |
