roll bar question

hello richard

looking at a local racing series, they require a 6 point roll cage minimum. with the jbl's driver hoop and forward diagonal to the floor board how many points would this be considered? could the passenger hoop be included in this also?

i know it is going to be up to the tech inspector but thought i would get the designers input.

what material are the hoops and the brace, they are heavy and appear to be solid?

thanks for a well engineered car.

Mark,

The single bar with the rear brace and the forward brace only gives you 4 pickup points. I guess the governing body wants two braces going rearward and two going forward. You would have to install a full width bar to be able to meet their requirements it seems.

the bar material is 1.75 dia, .120 wall 1020 DOM tube. The mountends have machined inserts that are welded into the tube. This is why they look solid.

roger. that is some pretty stout stuff. have to throw the .120 wall dom with solid ends at em and see if that phases em. thanks.

I have put up the engineering drawing for you. This may help your sanctioning body understand the unit a bit better.
