ignition advance
I live in France (sorry for my english !) and I own a Kirkham Cobra with an aluminium Shelby American 482ci FE prepared by KC in 2004. I need to adjust the ignition advance but I don't know the value (initial & "centrifuge").
The car is equipped with an MSD ignition (ignition coil Blaster 2, Cap and rotor MSD, distributor MSD, 6AL ignition controller 6420...). Could you please help me ? Thanks in advance. |

Thanks Undy :)
I just look on the website of KC. They mention 39 degrees total advance (but nothing about initial). "482/496 FE Shelby Street Crate ... • Block: Fully Machined Shelby Aluminum Block • Carburetor: Quick Fuel 780cfm (mine is a Holley 4150 750CFM) ... • Ignition: MSD Distributor • Compression: 10:1 (I'm between 11:1 and 11,5:1) ... • Timing: 39 Degrees @ Full Advance • Max RPM: 6200 ..etc." |
Yes on an engine like yours the total timing would be around 38 to 40 and it does not really matter on initial but normally in about 15 to 18 as mentioned. Total timing would be in by 3000 rpms most of the time. This should all work well for you.
Thanks, Keith |
Thank you very much...:)

I need a new advice.
Since I had some electrical problems, I also need to replace : - The alternator (I have 2 battery of 28Ah each, the external regulator is brand new) - The electric fuel pump (the carburator is a 4150 Holley 750 CFM, currently it's a Holley pump but I don't know the part number) Do you know the part numbers I need to order ??? Thanks for your help..! |
