No Dipstick hole in Genesis Block
I just finished the assembly of my Genesis short block. I just noticed there is no hole for the dipstick. Now what do I do?
THANKS, Dan |
Aviad 9 Qt Cobra Oil Pan has an opening for a dipstick on the right side of the engine. You can buy the dipstick setup from the supplier of the pan. This is the pan that was used on SC Cobras. The pan also has openings for the oil temperature gauge and the drain from a slop tank.

Pretty easy to make your own...I did. Use brake line, 5/16 or 3/8 I forget which one fits the dip stick just right. then get the flare fitting for the size hole in the oil pan. Run the line anywhere you want up the side of the engine. Put the dip stick in, and put the right amount of oil in. Then just look at the dip stick and mark the oil level, so you know where full is. After brake is bent to where you want it, and you cut it to length, the dip stick fits perfectly.

On an Aviad / Armando's pan use a big block Chevy dip stick. Bolt it to the top passanger side water pump bolt. Trim the bottom to fit, clamp it on with fuel line, and the fill mark is almost perfect.

All great ideas, gentlemen...but I've got a Canton pan. It has an opening for an oil temp sender, and I plan on using it for that. Do any Genesis blocks have the dipstick hole?
The oil pump shaft hole wasn't drilled completely through nor had a flat on the bottom side so the shaft wouldn't fit until I fixed that. I expected them to have these bugs straightened out by now... |

My Genesis block has a dipstick hole directly to the rear of the oil filter adapter. I believe that is where the original blocks had them. I did however us the provision in the Armondo pan since the windage tray interfered with the stock location. Brad W. |
2KWIK4U, I had this pan and the Canton windage tray on my original 427, and remember interference as you described. I've got a rivet-on dipstick tube from an old Ford pan...perhaps Ill look into using it.
Thanks for all your replies, Dan |
