Is 460 Good Choice For Street Use

Hi Everybody I'm new to Cobra Club, but have been a long, long time Cobra nut.
Since high school nearly 40 years ago. I'm in the planning stages of my dream car. Will need lots of advise.
First question is for Keith, on your website You have a 466/525hp is this a good choice for a street Cobra. Will cooling be a problem?
What type of Tremec do you recommend. Overdrive .82 or .64. (3.46 Rear Gears)
Do have a engine you would recommend.

Thanks

Snakebite, I am not Keith.....However I do have the SVO Ford Racing 460 in my SPF. I can tell you that you will be hard pressed to get anymore power for the dollar. It runs great and I have over 10k miles on it with no problems. It runs cool all day long, even in stop and go traffic on a hot day. The only thing that will overheat is you from the heat coming off the side exhaust.
My 2 cents, Jake

The 460 is a lousy choice unless you want a very fast stong bullet proof engine that will just keep running and running on pump gas....

and you just GOTTA hate that.....RIGHT????

It is a bit heavy.

Is it free???

460 Good Choice

What kind of tranny you do run? If overdrive, what number top gear?

Thanks

I switched to the TKO600 with .82 5th gear and a 3.27 ring and pinion, for me the driveability is much better then the original combination of TKO (.68 OD) and 3.73 gears.

I have a 460 in mine and it's great on the street. Torque curve down low so it will pull in any gear from 2000 RPM and up. Runs at 185-190 degrees when moving with no fans running. The TKO600 and a 3.31 rear gear are perfect for a good all around driver that gets ridden hard and put up wet.

460 engine

The 460 engine is a fine choice for a street Cobra or anything else for that matter. They give you the best bang for the buck. Our 460 will give you more power than 525HP but we like to be on the conservative side. The engine is a little heavier than the others but just a little stiffer spring up front for the extra weight. The cooling should not be any problem as long as you have a good water pump and radiator with good fans. Just let us know how we can help. Thanks, Keith

460 Good Choice

Thanks Keith, I will be in touch. As for a the stiffer springs, I will need a little direction. I'm looking hard at the Superformance Cobra, any advise on the front springs would be great.

Thanks

350# front springs will work just fine.

460

Tim, where can I get them.

Snakebite4U, what type of car do you have?

The LoneStar typically have Aldan Eagles and the spring change may not be as bad a other cars.

Tim Brewer 03-20-2006 06:58 AM

Snakebite, you should be able to call the maker of your shocks. I would think they would be able to help you.
Tim
