Reliability of the 408 vs. the 514 Crate Motor

Is there a significant difference in the reliability of your 408 Crate motor vs. the 514 Crate motor? You get a pretty significant bump in HP for few more bucks, but I was just curious about reliability. Also, what Tremec transmission best matches the 408 and the 514 powerplants? |
The reliability will depend on quality of the build, parts used and how stressed the engine is to make the power it will make.
The Tremec TKO600 is a safe bet for either engine. I would recommend the one with the .82 OD for better around town RPM's in 5th, but if you plan on making lots of long highway trips, I'd go with the .64 OD. Both are available for the TKO600. The one with the .82 is called TKO600R, for Road Race. Good luck! |
