I'm puzzled, how can it be adjustable? Surely if you reduce the length of the main legs, the rear stay won't line up correctly.

I'm with Fatboy on that one. Also, the crossbar would hit the body!

The roll bar I spoke of was a stainless replacement for my 289 FIA car. It had approx. 7" extra lengh which you cut to fit. Yes the cross bar location would change depending on how high you wanted the hoop. The roll bar hoop and kicker attachment came from kirkham unwelded. Once you have your hoop height established, weld in the leg bungs, bolt into place, fit the kicker bar and weld the kicker bar attachment to the hoop. I would guess if you ordered a passenger roll bar for a 427 it would come the same way. I'll add pic....Ron

I like the idea of an adjustable roll bar. Perhaps even a collapsable rollbar... you know, you could just push it down out of the way when putting the soft top up.http://www.capitalareacobraclub.com/...ative1/azn.gif

Perfect! I looked for a pic of a flipped street Cobra to attach to my last post and I was just going to say it had one of my collapsable roll bars in it. But this will do just fine.

EDIT -- A soft top should have no problem getting over this roll bar.

That's collapsable for sure! Ouch! Something to be said for Fashion over function...

RON N BKFLD 11-19-2009 01:27 PM

a soft top may have saved the roll bar,,,,,,,,Ron

FATBOY,,That Shelby was entering a freeway when he lost traction(3rd gear),spun off the road hitting a tree with left Q-panal. The impact drove the 3rd leg of the roll bar foward, ripping the left leg of the roll bar from it's bracket. when the car went over it only had the rt. leg remaining in place. The driver spent a week in the hospital. took the insurance money and bought a Porsche.......Ron

Thanks for the explanation Ron. Whilst there were mitigating circumstances, it is still sobering. These snakes can bite big time.

Rollbar Height--Kirkhams bars are a couple of inches taller than the original- Or I should say thet the old Shelby Cobra roll bars are a couple of inches shorter than an original Kirkham? Thus making them better! We wonder why an average college educated American can't really figure out any new proposed legislation?????

Anyway car is now in the hands of the trusted Kirkhams- It has cousins in simalar condition. Great because people are using them??

patrickt 11-22-2009 10:39 AM

BB -- good that it's up there. What is the Kirkham "surgery protocol" for a ding like that?

big-boss 11-24-2009 01:37 PM

They are figuring it out as we "speak?". The brother in law told me they will pull the jack bumber out and try to get the door right then pound it out. They said thay have seen lots worse. THere was one beautiful one in there with the front pulled out while getting out of the trailer. They said no deal-They are the best.

big-boss 12-24-2009 11:29 AM

It is one the way home as we speak. Yay! I am having a few dozen issues with the insurance company so I could't have the guys do all that was needed to fully restore the beauty- for another day.

The main thing is the the gang did another outstanding job and it is on the way home for the holidays! Tears of joy.

Your insurance company is not always your friend. You have a slightly unusual situation with your wife being the one that whacked your car, but the language of the policy is still probably on your side.;)

Rod, I don't want to hijack this thread, but I didn't want to start a new one just to post this little ad for you.

Maybe when you are up to it you can create a separate post on the trials and tribulations of getting your Kirkham back to factory fresh? If I had one of their cars I would only trust them with body repairs and no one else (well, maybe the McCluskey group in L.A., but they may not be used to working on thicker alum shells).

Glad to hear you are getting your ride back.
