Back to original topic. Does Nantucket get salt on the roads? I'm not a metallurgist, but the Kirkham's billet aluminum suspension (otherwise known as bling) may have an advantage over the Cobras with the non-bling suspension around the Nantucket area. |

Now if you've got a long drawn out warm up routine...well, that would pi$$ me off if I was your neighbor. |

I was there when that snow happened! Boss man you sold me at that point! |
I thought the quote was from Jean Michel Jarre. -- sorry . had to do that.
I think I will do a brushed aluminum car one day, but the queue is full this second. |

As to the original questions. I think I'm the second to worst person to ask. There is only one other person with more patina on his car than me and that's little Brother. I think the wear on my car is a bit like a badge of honor. It just illustrates that the car is meant to be driven and I courageously oblige. To the tune of 6500 miles in less than 5 months of ownership. About all I ended up caring about was having a clean windshield and thats only for selfish reasons - so that I can see out when driving. The smiles, the nods, the cell phone pictures out the window at 75mph tell me that most others don't care that the car has some scratches, neither do I. :) |
So that day I passed you on the Alpine Highway and we were both driving our polished cars do you think the other drivers were blinded heading both directions?
6,500 miles in 5 months is that it? :3DSMILE: Todd |
1. Can a Kirham be driven and still look good? What kind of upkeep is required?
Yes. just wipe is down with a spray wax and it will hold up well. I use BeadX by Formula 113. But any one should work and it's fast. only drawback - no top, but you can have a custom one made, it is not impossible 2. How do you care for a polished body? see answer above 3. How durable is the stainless frame. New England has a lot of sand on the roads(left over from Our Wnters)it is very abrasive. I have taken the control arms off and sent them to be powder coated and I am always painting the frame. I just don't know how it will wear or how to keep it looking good without parking the car. Stainless steel will hold up way better than steel against rust, is that your concern? Or are you concerned about the physicals, like stress cracking? I don't think that these frames will ever see enough force to worry about that. . .if you drive in salted roads, I would definately get the stainless frame, as it also includes door frames, hood frames, sway bar, etc in stainless. 4. What are the necessary options? This is a personal choice. The ones that stood out for me were: adjustable seat tracks footwell vents Avon tires (or should we say tyres?) wheel well foam installed bottom line, get a Kirkham, whatever way you want, the car and the people are awesome, you cannot go wrong. It's a truly special car. it is loved at the shows, I also get the comments made here about people not caring if it's real, (most just assume it is real) etc, asking about the "chrome" paint. . . etc. . and you know what? It is a real Cobra, only built today with improvements, in my opinion . .. . |

I'm thoroughly, hopelessly addicted to driving that car. I'm going through withdrawls at the moment as I haven't driven it in three days. I went to the Festival of Trees a couple days ago and stared at the one they auctioned off for like 15 minutes, like I'd never seen one before. If I REALLY want to have a good drive I'll take the car up Provo Canyon and run back and forth through the tunnel - dropping the car into 3rd at 50mhp and punching it at the entry. I'm sure there is a ticket waiting for me at the other end one day, but I won't care. I do remember passing you on the Alpine Highway that day. I'd have waved sooner but I couldn't see you Too much glare...:) |
