Kit Car Builder: Larry Ellison's Kirkham

Kit Car Builder, Feb 2010 edition, has a great 4 page article on Larry Ellison's Kirkham, appropriately titled " The Art of Engineering ", which also appears on the cover.

Unfortunately, could not find an on-line version of the article.

Mr. Ellison is fanatical about the Japanese culture and has built at least his last two local homes in the Japanese motiff. Just take a long look at the background around his Kirkham. His latest home is rumored to have cost in the neighborhood of $65 Million. The local paper said he even imported these large boulders from Japan at some huge cost.

Let's just say he's not exactly down the block. ;)

As I recall (and I may be wrong), Mr. Ellison built a custom Japanese motiff house in Atherton - I'm not sure if he still owns it. Also, I recall that had plans to build a home in Woodside, but had problems with the town council concerning the size of the home that he wanted to build - I'm not sure how this ended (may this is the 2nd home that Rodney speaks of).

Mr. Ellison did sell his Atherton home. The asking price was $25 Million, but I dpn't remember what it sold for a few years ago. He did build a "2nd house" in Woodside and that was the one I was referring to.

I don't remember him having any problems with approvals, but there has been a long running fight, including a court battle, with the Woodside Town Council with Mr. Steve Job's planned home in Woodside. They wanted him to remodel some really old awful house because it had historical value and it really is/was beyond saving.
