KMP625 has an engine!
I picked up my engine this weekend, built by FE Specialties in Sacramento. It is an aluminum Shelby block, Shelby intake, Performer RPM heads, medium Crower cam and 468 displacement. For carb we chose the 830 Holley 4150 (chokeless) with annular boosters. The carb works well with the porting; after some jet changes it dyno'd at 615HP at 5800 rpm, 640 lb/ft at 4200 rpm with 90% of the peak from 2800-5600 rpm. It looks great sitting on my garage floor; I'll be sorting out plumbing & accessories and hope to install in about 2 weeks.
Thanks to a number of you for suggestions and advice, and particularly to Tom Kirkham for carburetor advice. Mark |

Good luck Mark. We hope to see you soon at Cobra breakfast. P.S. My 850 carb wasn't ported. |
Hey guys,
Why the rebuild? What sort of mileage/use/issues are you having? Thanks, rodneym |
Rodney, I was being sarcastic, since Mark's engine will have more HP and TQ than mine and they're both almost identical engines, built by the same guy, except for the carb and my LARGER displacement.

Stop your *****in' and go buy a bigger/better carb. Or a 200 shot.

That is great news, Mark...really happy for you.
Hurry up...the weather's perfect! |
Rodknock,
Ok, I feel better now. And I thought my son is too literal.**) rodneym |
Hi Mark, Great news! Post some pictures after KMP625 gets a heartbeat. :D

I would guess that the difference is the carb, not that 10 or 20 HP here or there is noticeable at these P/W levels. I originally asked Tom for 550HP and excellent light throttle driveability ( go ahead, call me a girly man...) and that was what he modeled the build on. The output exceeded target by 65 HP, but I switch carbs on him after consultation with Tom K who was pretty persuasive regarding both annular boosters and chokeless. I have a temporary operating permit until 4/30 which I am using as a deadline to get it together and driveable. I look forward to meeting you guys once I have the appropriate hardware to come to a breakfast. Mark |
Sounds great Mark! Look forward to seeing your car when it's done.
