If the alloy survives welding...

Remember these bodies are about 14 seperate pieces welded together.

David had mentioned building 10 of these at one time. I'd imagine the welding process and sheer cost of the copper sheeting was enough to make them re-think building #2.

Like Jamo said it was more of a challenge to see if they could do it. Very few people would even see it to completion. Darn shame it's not been finished though.

Personally, I'm waiting for the titanium one.

Somewhere on this site is a little blurb, likely posted by one of the brothers K, about how they weld aluminum. It's a real art. Something about sooting the area up with the torch (heavy on the gas, less oxygen) and then just when that soot begins to burn away the temperature is "just right".

Having done a lot of copper brazing myself the techique is similiar. You do enough of it and you can almost "feel" or "sense" when the temp is right. It's an art.
