Default Kirkham Gauges / Oil water - OHM Values.

On the FE TALK thread there is a note about oil pressure reading 0.

so in other business I contacted the vendor for the gauges and received the OHM values and VOLT values as pertaining to the pressure and temp gauges.

The Gauges operate on a 0.5V+ to 5.0 v+ DC band/level. so the maximum voltage you should recieve on a guage lead is +5VDC.

The wiring heading from the Oil Pressure Gauges to the senders is three strand s ( 3) , all yellow with a stripe code per wire ;

Stripe Codes;

Yellow/ Red = POWER to SENDER, should read 5.0V+
Yellow/Black = Ground. Note: gauge supplies own reference ground, and does not rely on engine block for that signal.
Yellow / Green = Return signal reference wire from sender to gauge pod.
This should read between 0.5V+ at ign on , 0 PSI and then read 4.5V+ at 100PSI.

So if you are testing and cranking you should see the voltage value go from 0.5VDC+ to say 1.5V maybe.

so 50 PSI should be about 2.3V+

Now on to water temp;

water temp is a resistance ( think of resistance or OHMS as a parasitic drain to do work.)

As measured between the poles of the temp sender by a Ohm Meter/ Multi meter.

Water temp
100F = 295 ohms
170F = 153 ohms
195F = 100 ohms
220 = 66 ohms
280F = 28ohms

The water temp is measured by unplugging the gauge from the sensor and measuring the resistance across the 2 small posts on the WT sensor.

Hope this helps.

Steve
