First "Fall" moring KMP Drive
Finally got my Kirkham out for a morning driving here in the mountains and it was so great - 65 degrees, sunny and the thundering roar of my 427 echoing in the canyon....Just love my KMP:D
|
Yup, took a drive into Kings Canyon a few evenings ago...in the 80s (cool for us).
Summer's a highly overrated concept. |
I gotta find me some nice canyons!
But I do get some great feedback on those 14 lane overpasses. Congrats on the new ride. rodneym |
Fresno's a lot like Provo and SLC in having the canyons and mountains in the backyard. I live east of town off of one of main roads into the canyon. I get home, roll it out, turn left and I don't hit a stop sign for about five miles on a big broad road through stone fruit, vineyards and citrus. Within a half hour, just as the oil has warmed, the road gets twisty as it follows the river in beautiful horse ranch country. Five minutes later, and it's granite walls on one side and rushing cold snow melt on the other. Turn around at the dam and backtrack home.
An hour after I started, the Cobra's at rest in front of its garage with the cooling exhaust making snaps and crackles. |

Jamo,
I love that area up into Yosemite valley. You are truly blessed to have that driving experience so close. David |
us on the east coast can only imagine...pictures would be nice
|
David...the Ortega Highway ain't too far away. ;)
|
Yes you are right Jamo,
It is just very, very crowded. Bumper to Bumper on most days. BTW, to many Crouch Rockets these days... David |
Doesnt have to be a KMP. I took a friend for a quick hop, he was in the fetal position crawling into the footwell by 4000 RPM in 2nd.
|
David, when I lived in Mission Viejo, I did a lot of work in El Centro. The Ortega in the early 80s wasn't bad, and I'd usually hit it as soon as the sun was above eyeball piercing level.
Took the road around Palomar and then up to Julian. Up and over towards Borrego, except that I'd take the road through the Rutherford high ranch through the park and on to Octillo Wells...then 8 into town. the road followed the Butterfield stage route below Mt. Laguna...dips and curves and roadrunners and coyotes. 5-6 times a month. Damn I miss that. Then again, you do have those beautiful new (to me) toll roads after midnight. ;) |
Jamo,
That sounds like a perfect fall cruise. I think I will try it in October. David |
