I like the red horns, oh and a beauty of a car. Brushed is a good option

From this state, they in Provo, file down the welds and pick and mold the entire body with special metal working tools until it is the exact shape it needs to be. They call this the "filed" state and it is what they sell as the standard finish. According to many posts by them this is the best state to apply paint.

They are wonderful to deal with. If you are truly serious, give them a call, or email them. They will tell you all the plusses and minuses of doing the work yourself.

Getting back to the man, and the Cobra, of the hour...congrats Avmaviator. :)

Long term, you're gonna love the brushed finish. Try some Hella horns (a more subtle red or they can be painted as well). They give off a real world blast when needed.

You might consider the 42 gal gas tank option if you have not already done that. I have it and I love it.

Horns

Not sure if you can get stebel horns on your side of the pond, but they are discreet (until you press the button!)

I had those Hellas in my GT40. I know it was hard to see, but when I laid on the horn, everybody moved! They are very loud.

Got an email from David saying the car is scheduled to start the filing process on Tues (12th), then 2 weeks of assembly. It is weird hearing that this whole thing is actually happening, a dream coming true via email, haha.

I agree with Chas re. sub straps- otherwise the harness sits too high on you!

Mark

Do the full harness sub straps go through the seats (as they should) or around the front of the seats?

Mine go right in front of the Seat, they work fine holding The lap belt down.

Thanks its a shame to have a slot for the sub belt in nice leather seats, I have used them round the front and its a good compromise!

Quick update 6/12

Car is waiting to get picked up in Provo by Intercity Lines then off to Chicago! Should be another week before a truck is in the area to pick it up.

-Ordered TKO-600 (.82), alum flywheel, and Ram clutch package from Brent. Might be there next week or the week after.
-Engine is coming along. Pond block is machined, heads ported and worked on, and now
Barry is waiting for a few more parts.
-Found some awesome dark brown European leather for the seats and dash. Also found some great darker brown carpet for the interior and trunk (leather in the trunk too).

Got to shop for a few parts now lke alternator, starter, remote oil filter set up, side pipe muffler sections, and a few other things (any recommendations for these?)

Can't wait for this thing to get here!

Thanks for the update,

You have an exciting few weeks ahead as you finish your Chariot of Fire

Can't tell if your interior is fully installed or not, but if you can, you want to add pop rivets at sheet metal junction points to lessen drumming and rattles in the cockpit and trunk. Also, Dynamat under the carpet will cut down on noise and heat, use it to seal the joints to lessen unwanted fumes in the cockpit. The difference is night and day.

Great car.

Good ideas, thanks!

RestoCreations 06-14-2011 12:21 PM

I just ordered fatmat for mine. It is a bit cheaper than the dynamat. I have used both and both are good products. Dynamat is probably a little better, but i am not sure if it is worth the extra $$$

Avmaviator 06-17-2011 09:56 PM

Car was picked up yesterday (Thursday 16th) and should be arriving next thursday! So excited :)

RestoCreations 06-18-2011 10:46 AM

Who picked it up? Hopefully not reliable. ;)

It is funny because I almost went with unreliable but decided to go with Intercity, then I read your thread and made me feel better about my choice :) Really sucks you have to go through that. Nothing worse then wondering where and when your car will arrive, really makes you go >:JEKYLHYDE (I really have been wanting to use this emoticon hah.
