Kirkham hubs
For those in the know.
Been working on a KMS car and noticed the hubs to the wheels are not hub centric? On the Shelby hubs the wheel has hub contact both on the inside wheel and the spinner side. Looks like on the KMS made hub it has centering on the spinner side but nothing inside. On the inside it sits on the hub face center and pins only. Guessing that it is enough as the wheel if on tight enough should stay centered. Thoughts? Thanks Jeff |

Interesting Jeff. My ERA and the Superformance have a similar design to the Shelby, it would seem that this design offers a little more support to the wheel than the KMS design. Unless of course, the MS wheels do not have a stepped inside of the wheel near the pins.

Jeff I may be off base here but is the idea that the pins center the wheel radially, rather than the hub establishing that via contact with the ID of the wheel? Or are you seeing that contact (hub to wheel) on the spinner side of the wheel? I will have to take mine off and take a look!

It was just an observation.
Thought that hub needed centering both sides. Sure if wheels are secured well enough they do not move. Figured the KMS crowed could shed light. The wheels are not KMS, so they look like shelby fit. My mag wheels seem to be shelby style however on KMS hub would work? |
Updates..... :eek: From two reliable sources...
Ok, have heard that the center cone on the Shelby hub is more for centering wire wheels. Wire's do not have a centering spinner nut. The taper on the spinners itself will center the wheels and the pins and pressure between the hub face will be fine. So wires center on the hub..... Halibrand center on the spinner.......... Cleared that up... Phew:o |
