2 Post Lift/Chassis alignment

When I was out at your shop the other day.... and we were talking .... the subject of using a 2 post lift came up..... The question I had was how do you do Alignment of the wheels and tires off of the frame rails if the suspension is not loaded.. How do you check the Camber ....or Toe.... or Castor on a 2 Post lift.... I do like the way everything is out of your way on a 2 post lift.... just didn't understand your statement that we have a special way to do it..... Can you discuss how you do it. Thanks |
Sorry to have missed your post.
What we do is pull the shocks and springs out of the car and replace them with adjustable struts. The struts are made with a left and right rod ends so that the length of the strut can be adjusted. The struts are adjusted to put the suspension at the proper ride height. The rest of the settings are then very easy to adjust. This method will get the car close, not perfect but very very, close. I guess at our next open house we will have to give a demonstration. |
How is the rear camber set, my car appears to have a positive camber and it looks as if the heim joint must be removed to adjust this. There must be some way to do this with removal of the joint. I wish I could attent your seminar.

On an original spec suspension the top bolt holding the upright is removed. This should relase the upper control arm from the upright. The rod end is then adjusted in or out depending on which way you need to go. Normally once the car is set up a half turn or two should get you thier. You should not have to remove the rod end to do this. If this is still only as clear as mud then post some pics of your rear suspension and I will explain it to you using your pics. Hope this helps.
