KM 427F guinea pigs

I've got a year or so until I can jump in, but I would really like to know the status of the Kirkham 427 fiberglass project. Does anyone have any information, build or factory pics or that they could share?

M :)

On the main thread, there was a link that worked, but I tried it a few days ago, and It didn't work:( It had pics, prices and a bunch of other information.

Wow - This is the first I have heard of this. If true, that is too bad as this was a cars that seemed to be somewhat affordable (relatively speaking).

Oh well - I guess you snooze, you lose.

David K - could you give us an update?

Regards,

Keith

I could give you an update, but then I'd have to shoot me.

Keith -

Apparently you inquiry doesn't meet the criteria needed for a response.

If you really want an answer, you can try criticising them - you will see an instantaneous response that will include many apologies and excuses blaming their computers being down etc.

Pat,

Actually my request is a curiousity at this point. As I am not in a position to be a serious customer at this juncture, I don't feel that any of the Cobra makers have to spend a lot of time with my questions.

In actuality, David and Tom have been extremely nice to me over the years and have spent a considerable amount of time answering various questions for me over the years. I can say the same thing about Kris in Vegas and Chris in LA from the various Shelby locations. I thank them all as my knowledge has only increased and I am sure they get hounded by millions of questions.

When I become a serious buyer, I will start with the Kirkhams as their product is fantastic and I am confident that they will take all the time necessary to maintain my positive impression. I guess time will tell.

Best Regards,

Keith

Ron:

I noticed that you had a 289 KMP and a 427 KMP. How do the two compare?

RON N BKFLD 09-11-2004 12:16 PM

Lew,,,,,

after 10 years of driving 427 powered midstates i wanted a mild mannered FIA with nearly stock 289 for easy , recreational driving. but,,,,i didn't want to give up the more extreme 427 ground pounder . i also wanted both cars to be alum and one thing led to another so here i am with 2 partialy built kirkhams and my old midstates.
maybe by spring i can give better info between the two.

thanks for the interest
Ron

Gents,

I have posted the following post over in All Cobra Talk. More comments below.

Gents,

Kirkham has decided to shelve the fiberglass project. We will not be making or selling any fiberglass cars for now--or as far as we can see into the future. We did not answer questions on the subject until we could contact all of those who put deposits down on the fiberglass cars. I hope you can all understand why we didn't answer earlier. I apologize for any problems I may have created.

Why did we cancel the project?

We took one of our fiberglass cars out into the sun one day and left it outside because we were cleaning out the shop and needed some space. When we went to bring the car back in we noticed the body had shifted in the sun.

I guess we know how to make aluminum bodies and haven't figured out how to make fiberglass ones.

I would like to give a special thanks to all of those customers who sent us a deposit on the belief we could make them a fiberglass car. As the cars were not up to our standards, we offered all of the customers who put a deposit down on one of the fiberglass cars a complete refund on their deposit--or--a car in aluminum as a replacement. All of the fiberglass customers decided to take an aluminum car.

Again, many thanks to all who participated in our experiment. Back to the drawing board.

David

Keith,

Please accept my sincere apology as to not answering this thread eariler. I hope you can understand why we did not answer it earler.

Ron,

So sorry for the delay in getting you your parts. We simply sold so many cars at the first of the year that you were extrememly difficult to work back into the schedule when you called back as soon as you did. We did not expect you to call as soon as you did and we were experiencing a severe shortage of parts at the time. Sadly, you were not the only one who waited a long time for parts. I truly do appreciate your patience and that of many other customers.

Again,

A sincere thanks to those customers who showed faith in us and gave us a deposit on an unproven product. I hope they are all happy with their "427 F" cars which are all now made out of aluminum.

David :):):)

David,
You were under no obligation to do anything other than offer a refund of the deposits when you decided to cancel the project. Instead you chose to keep us as customers and made a very generous offer to do so. For that I am grateful and look forward to owning a Kirkham 427 roadster.

PS: I sent you an email regarding the options we discussed.

Scott

David,
Grateful is an understatement, stunned is more like it. As you will recall when you made me the offer I said I'd have to think about it! I pictured you looking at the phone going 'what's up with this guy?'. I have never been the one to come across some once in a lifetime deal like you gave me.

Thank You

John

David,

No problem - you didn't owe me any answer and you did the right thing in working with the existing customers first before announcing it to the world.

Keep up the great work!
