Kirkham Windshield Question and Issue
I was cleaning my windshield today and noticed something peculiar._ The windshield is made in Poland (Pinkerton is the brand)._ It appears there might be a safety film on the inside (driver's side) of the glass._ It looks like the film on mine may have some tiny hairline splits in it._ Anyone else observed this?_ Considering the car has spent way too much time in a climate controlled garage and is still sadly "low mileage", I am wondering if anyone else has run into this._ It's something you notice when cleaning or taking a real fine detailed look at it.

TC,
Pilkington is a very large world-wide manufacturer of glass based in England. The glass is DOT approved and European approved laminated glass. They are a very large OEM supplier to almost all makes of cars. They have a plant in Poland not far from our factory where they made our glass in the past. We quit making our own windshields quite some time ago, however, as they didn't like the small run quantities we made our glass in. We have not had any delaminating problems in the past. If there is a problem with the Pilkington glass I am sure they would want to know. Regardless, we will replace any defective glass. Please return it to us. If you need us to send you a box with a call tag, we will be happy to. David :):):) |

David,
Thank you for the reply and offer. I am knee deep in a motor rebuild on another car. The driving season has started and I am reluctant to pull the windshield for any extended period, unless it gets worse right now, for fear of driving downtime. However, I am planning on pulling the windshield to even out the sanded surfaces in front of and behind the screen. I will take you up on it if it gets worse, or if we can figure out a way to ensure a quick turn around of parts and only a few day downtime. It is very minor at this point, but an issue worthy of notation and seeing if others have it. |
TC,
Just let us know if it gets worse or if you have any other problems. David :):):) |
