Eaasy Questions?
Can you pull the heads off an FE with studs?
Does a FE High Riser with single Holley fit under the hood? Is the weight savings of an aluminum block worth the money? Any Aluminum bellhousings out there for an FE? Thanks. |
Let me take a stab at a few questions.
1. Having just put my motor in the car, I really doubt that you'd be able to pull the heads off if they were held down by studs. 2. I wouldn't even consider an aluminum bellhousing...you REALLY need a scatter shield, and I doubt that even exists in aluminum. 3. I believe you could fit a high riser in there, I know someone with a tunnel port and duel carbs, and they fit. I don't think the high riser is any taller, but I'm sure someone out there knows for sure. 4. As for an aluminum block being worth the extra money, that's completely subjective. If you're planning on an original SO, there may not be that big a difference in price, and I believe that the Pond block is visually identicle to the original (except for its shiney finish). Weight is a factor, but if you were to use ally heads, intake, water pump, etc, the overall weight difference is not very much. Just my two cents, but I've not been at this very long. There are guys here with MUCH more experience than I. So we can both wait and see what they have to say. |
1)Never ever use a lightweight bellhousing if you value your lower extremeties.
2) I just mocked up my FE Hiriser with tunnel wedge 2x4 and its going to fit, Ive seen others that did. 3)Im going with Pond but because of more than one reason. Its 86lbs lighter AND its stronger than the original Iron block. 4)On the studs I doubt it. Michael |
