About Passing Gas?

Seems like everywhere the general thought is that the Cobra sidepipes loose somewhere between 50 to 75 HP. Generally I have read it's because the primary's are too long and the distance between the collector and the "muffler" is too short. Realesticaly in the couple of Cobras I have made and had-I doubt if I would know the difference.
BUT: What can be done? Should A guy go with under body exhaust? Modyfy the side pipes? Any experience or thought?

Stainless Specialties' sidepipes were only 5HP short of open headers at the peak.
They made the same 103db at 3000 RPM at 20 foot distance as open headers, however. My pipes are the 2 5/8 core but now a 3" core is available. Get the pipes split after the collector so open headers are available for track use.
