Kirkham Roller to Completion

How long did it take you to get you Kirkham (for those of you who got a roller) from the day you got it to completion?

ENTDOC 04-24-2007 06:22 PM

13 months or so

lineslinger 04-24-2007 06:39 PM

Wow!!
ENTDOC, were you restricted to weekends or is that a realistic time frame? Over a year seems like a long time, any hangups with parts delivery or otherwise?

I just finished two (except for alignment on one of them). Weekends and a late night here and there. KMP 473 and 474. Hope you have a car lift.

So, how long?

big-boss 04-25-2007 09:50 AM

I have one-just got it. Roller, if you have your engine & trans and diff ready to put in and you don't have to fabricate your sidepipes or something crazy like that- you could litteraly do it in a weekend. Wires are already there just hook up and go. I turned the battery swith on and I can even turn on the fuel pump. Thes guys really have figured it all out. Now sanding/ painting, parts assembly would be more of coarse. I hope to be on the road by end of summer. I rub on it alot.

I do that as well, but I fail to see how that will get your car finished any more quickly!

Rob, it's a custom built car. Don't pull the same crap that you did with SPF and Performance Engineering. Seriously...if you're that impatient, buy something else. And again, if you're gonna be that anal about things going wrong, then buy something else.

xlr8or 04-25-2007 10:50 AM

I had to build mine up to "roller" status and even with that included it was only about 200 hours total.

If money isn't slowing you down, I can't imagine going from roller to done would be more than 70 or 80 hours worth of work unless you are so anal that you couldn't pull a needle out of your butt with a tow truck.

Murphy 04-25-2007 10:53 AM

A solid two to three weeks

If you have the tools and parts ready to go you could do it quick. I spent more time than I should have because of work travel away from home. You have to have a lift, a welder and hand tools.

lineslinger 04-25-2007 10:57 AM

Murphy,
What aspects of your builds did you need the lift and welder for?

Murphy 04-25-2007 11:13 AM

Tools

You need a small mig welder to weld the brackets and tabs on the sidepipes. You have to fit the pipes to the car and motor, then weld. You can buy one for $100. You will regret not having a lift for the under car work. Of course it can be done but what a pain in the A$$. The home lifts are under 2K and well worth it. You can put it together in a weekend no problem.

30 days after the Keith Craft engine and Tremec arrived,We had it on the road. Biggest expense was the welding done by an on site vendor.

About 10 months but my timeframe is a bit invalid since I went backwards first after receiving the roller. The roller was completely disassembled, painted and then built as a ground up restoration from that point.

ENTDOC 04-25-2007 11:36 AM

bought mine on a whim and my first cobra was not even on the road yet, so KMP266 sat for quite a while so I could finish the other one. After it got started it was done in 2 months or so.
