I use just a touch wheel polish on the stripes to maintain them...

I too have found the finish to be easy to maintain. I think what you need to understand is that people that like this look tend to appreciate the more vintage ,racey look, as opposed to the car show winner look,so a few blemishes are ok with us.

I agree 100%. I don't mind the blemishes much, I've let spots go unattended on the sidepipes, and even have a dent in the rear quarterpanel that I've grown to like.
If the car were painted, I'd worry constantly about the finish. With the bare aluminum, ANYTHING can be fixed without a total repaint. I drive mine almost every day, and the naked body (can I say that?) is perfect for that. |

I polished mine - I think the amount of work to keep it nice was more than if I had painted it - but it was worth it to me as there are SO MANY fiberglass cars out there I didn't want to spend all that money only to have someone mistake it for a glass run of the mill POS.

I have a spray bottle with half & half laquer thinner & water. Spray a section and wipe it down, cleans and shines. About 10 minutes for the whole car.........Ron

I use the same method as Jamo and it seems to work. Although I would like to see the end results with the other methods. Could you guys ( RON N BKFLD, ENTDOC & bfleming) send me some pics of your cars.
The previous owned had tried to clean the car with some type of liquid aluminum cleaner and it left some white spots on the finish. I was able get some out with the scotchbrite pads but I'm too lazy and would like to try another method.
Not sure why the bone-heads think they have to touch the car. Probably to see if it really is aluminum. Then they have to run their finger over the polished stripes to see if it really is a stripe.
I've thought about getting a couple static cling decals to put on top of the fenders that say "YES, IT REALLY IS ALUMINUM......PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH"
Not to sound like a pr!ck, but people can be total idiots.

A friend of mine offered me a segestion this weekend, to people from touching the car.
Hook up an electrical fence thing to the car- zap when it is touched. Another nice thing about aluminium-Conducts electricity.

Ron, I looked in your gallery and your car really has gone through quite a few finishes hasn't it? I think I like it best in one of it's brushed looking stages......................with Jackie rubbing on it! :D LOL Man, what do ya have to do to get the wife to help you with the toy polishing? Steve......car has had several finishes. My wife has gone along with this cobra foolishness for 14 years, and the GTOs & trans ams for 10 years before that. Never VETOed anything so when she wanted it polished, well you know.
As for her "rubbing", that was a photo-op...........Ron

It is absolutely UNbelievable the way everyone must touch the car. Most get a kind of glazed look in their eye and then run hands and fingers everywhere!
I tried cleaning (beofre the "touchers") w/ window cleaner - the car looks great from a distance, but it has streaks all over it.
Oh well, these problems all go away once its running.

DurangoKid...that's from the "milk" which builds up after awhile. Just clean it good with soap and water and make sure you use the original blue Windex.

In my brief experience, I have found it very hard to clean and very sensitive finish. I'm afraid it will be hard to keep clean.
I like the show room look all the time, some guys here like the raced look. . .
So I'll see how it goes for the next year or so. If it turns out that I don't like it, I'll spray it. . .
No big deal, but I love the idea of no chips, etc. . .
