Bellhousing clearance on Kirkham frame rails
I know this topic has been discussed before because I have seen it, but I am unable to find info when I run some key word searches. I also browsed the Kirkham site and could not find anything relating to...maybe I am looking in the wrong places.
I have a Mcleod bellhousing on the motor for my Kirkham and am curious as to how far past the frame rail the bellhousing goes and is there a template for cutting it? I would really like to cut it before the motor goes into the car...making life a little easier. thanks for all your help:) :) :) Mike |

Thank you, thank you, thank you...ST
I am not going crazy....I knew I saw it, but would never have pulled up that link. Thank you again for your courtesy Mike |
the cut is for 289 chassis !!!
|
That looks like what he has.

John, In earlier post Mike said he has FIA w/427 chassis. Kirkham hybrid......................... Ron

Ah ha. But the link takes you to a 427 Scattershield mod.

Sorry, my fault. I should have been more clear. I have a 289 fia on a 427 chassis.
Again, my fault. I have two threads going simultanously and the other thread states that I have a 427 chassis with the subject revolving around headers. I should have stated it also on this post. You know what is really great about this site? It's the fact that there are so many people genuinely interested in the hobby and overly willing to help others....that is really, really refreshing....think about it if we only had more of this through out the world...what a greater world this could be. I hope that wasn't sentimental for a Sunday afternoon.... Mike |
I hope that wasn't sentimental for a Sunday afternoon....
I can't think of a better time to be sentimental. :) John |
They have the pictures there in the post but if I was you I would install it first in the car and see just how low it is. This will allow you to trim in relation to the frame rails and the oil pan.

xlr8or,
Good point! What they show in the pictures is a lakewood housing and I am curious if the flange around the housing on both the lakewood and Mcleod are the same dimension? That is, in terms of being able to use the lakewood as a reference for my Mcleod. I guess it's the old adage measure twice and cut once...... |
