If you buy it as a kit how does it arrive?

Did anyone have the car shipped? Do they assemble it as a rolller? I don't want to get the factory assembled car i weant to do it my self has anyone here done that?

it will come as a roller but there will be plenty to do. Remember the body is attaches to the birdcage frame and is done in Poland.

Do you have any pics of your car as it arrived?

They don't typically sell it that way. The norm for them is the semi finished roller or the complete roller.

Give them a call ask what the options are for the assembly.

Here are pictures of my car as it arrived. This arrived as a completed roller although then it was taken apart down to the body/frame for paint and then rebuilt with some of the same parts and many parts that were replaced with original parts. I looked into just getting a box of parts from Kirkham since I wanted to paint the car and did not want to paint an assembled car. I also thought about getting a box of parts instead of a roller because I knew I was going to be scrapping many of the incorrect to original spec parts that are on the Kirkham roller. The bottom line is that it really was not much of a cost savings to get the parts unassembled so I went with a completed roller. If you intend on using the parts from Kirkham you would probably have even more of a reason to get a completed or semi-completed car. You will probably not spend a lot more money to get it done this way. Kirkham is not big on sending out a box of parts for people to assemble on their own so they really don't offer a big price incentive to do this.

To the question of assembling the car on your own. Even though I did receive the completed roller originally I have gone through the process of assembling the car (not myself but with a Cobra restoration shop) since it was disassembled for paint as I mentioned. So if you end up getting a box of parts and need help you can PM me with questions along the way. Here it is when fully apart during paint.

I opted out of the $5,000 assembly. I was just curious what I will get? I don't mind doing the work myself

Take yourself back to your teenage days when you would return home from the Hobby Shop with a new AMT or Revell model car. Imagine what it was like when you removed the lid. The items missing are the Large plastic bag that contained everything and the plastic trees. Otherwise, pretty similar; just adjust the scale.

The vast majority of our cars leave here assembled as rollers. The time to assemble a car from scratch is very significant. It takes us about 100 hours and I would imagine it would take most people a few hundred, plus a million phone calls, emails, and posts on Club Cobra to get it done. : )

CC is a GREAT place for info, however.

Rich had a really cool car. He made us go and find a bunch of original parts that we are pretty rare now days. We still sell original type cars, but not too many. Rich's that paint does look spectacular!

If you get "the car in a box" it is actually around 25 boxes--depending on how well we get it packed. If you get it as a roller then it rolls off the transporter to you.

We will have a BIG sale this next weekend at the Shelby Convention at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. The track is way cool there. Ask ANYONE who has driven there. We will also have a VERY cool dent removal demonstration.

After the event, we will radically change our pricing structure to reflect more of what people usually order.

Assembly of the Kirkham car is pretty straight forward. As shown above, mine showed up with the body on the frame, all interior and close out panels installed along with the wiring harness hanging in the car. There were 20 boxes of parts that came along with it.

Take your time and go one step at a time and you will find it to be quite enjoyable. You will have a lot of questions along the way but between this forum and the Kirkhams, all the questions can be answered.

If I thought I could get the same deal from David as I did the last time I would do it again in a heartbeat. ;) hint hint. ;)

Mine showed up like xlr8or....except without the grained finish... The Kirkhams were great about getting me information and some parts that I still needed.
I am just getting ready to start building mine and I applaud your deciscion to build it yourself.
I hope Kirkham's pricing will always include an option for the owner to assemble.
